Phillip N. Cockrell, a partner in the firm, has over 29 years of experience in representing clients in both business transactions and commercial litigation. Mr. Cockrell is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas and Arkansas. He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Northern Districts of Texas; the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western District of Arkansas; the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma; the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Eighth, and Eleventh Circuits; and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Cockrell is a cum laude graduate of both North Texas State University (B.B.A. in Accounting, 1974) and Baylor University School of Law (J.D. 1978). While in law school, Mr. Cockrell was a member of the Order of Barristers and served as Editor-in Chief of the Baylor Law Review (1977-78). Mr. Cockrell has represented banks, other lending institutions, corporate clients and individuals in business, real estate and commercial matters. Mr. Cockrell was one of the first board certified specialists in business bankruptcy law (1989) in Northeast Texas. Mr. Cockrell has had the rather unique privilege and ability to represent clients in all facets of their business matters, whether transactional or in litigation. Mr. Cockrell is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Arkansas Bar Association, the Texarkana Bar Association, the Northeast Texas Bar Association, the Southwest Arkansas Bar Association, and the Bar Associations for the Fifth Circuit and for the Eastern District of Texas. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and member of the Texas State Bar College. Mr. Cockrell is also active in Texarkana civic organizations, having served on the Boards of Directors of Watersprings Ranch, Inc., (provides homes for abused and neglected children) and Runnin WJ Therapeutic Center, Inc., (provides hippotherapy for autistic and other children/adults with physical and emotional challenges), as well as being an active member and providing leadership at his local church (First Baptist Church, Texarkana) and the Caddo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
